Compass is the foundation — the platform where AI is built, deployed, and observed. A solution is what Sage builds on that foundation for your organization: a complete AI application with its own interface, designed around your process, and operated by Sage. The agents and workflows that power it are built, deployed, and traced with the same machinery the rest of these docs describe.
Solutions are built by Sage, not on the canvas by your team. You bring the process; we deliver working software. What makes a solution different from ordinary custom development is what you can see: the AI behind it lives in a Compass project your team can be granted access to, so nothing about how it works is a black box.
How a solution is delivered
Scope
We map the process together — the inputs, the outputs, the systems involved, and what "done" looks like — before anything is built.
Build
Sage engineers compose the agents and workflows on Compass and wrap them in an application made for the people who'll use it.
Deploy
The solution ships as versioned deployments on Sage-hosted infrastructure. Your team gets accounts and roles; every release is numbered and traceable.
Operate
We run it in production and keep improving it. Changes arrive as new versions — and every execution it performs is recorded as a trace you can inspect.
What your team can see
A solution isn't sealed off from the platform — it's built on it. With access to the project behind your solution, your team can open Compass and see:
- the workflows and agents that power the solution, as they're actually wired,
- the deployments and versions that are live right now,
- and every execution and trace — what the AI did, step by step, token by token.

Using a solution vs. seeing behind it
Access to a solution's application and access to the Compass project behind it are granted separately. Many people in your organization will only ever use the application; the ones who want to look under the hood get platform access too. See Solution access & members.
